Jim Rafferty advises both large and small business clients on a broad range of commercial matters to help them achieve their tax, business, regulatory and financial accounting goals. He has substantial experience advising and representing clients with respect to tax-oriented business transactions and federal and state tax planning, tax controversies and litigation, and federal tax policy matters. He also has considerable experience dealing with corporate finance, regulatory costing, and accounting issues arising in economic policy disputes and in merger proceedings involving large, regulated concerns.

Mr. Rafferty’s transactional experience includes structuring corporate acquisitions and sales, leases of heavy equipment and facilities and other asset-based financings, real estate investment trusts (REITs), and biotechnology licensing. He also has advised a number of large companies and industry groups in the formulation of legislative and regulatory tax policy proposals.

Mr. Rafferty is former chairman of the American Bar Association Tax Section's Committee on Affiliated and Related Corporations and has published articles in leading tax journals. Mr. Rafferty graduated from Brown University in 1974 and received his J.D. cum laude from Georgetown University Law Center in 1984.
