Billing Philosophy
It is critically important to us that we establish and maintain strong working relationships with our clients, and believe that such relationships are founded upon mutual trust and confidence. Those relationships can be undermined if clients do not feel that they are being billed fairly, or are forced to review and evaluate the appropriateness of long lists of disbursements each month. We recognize that law departments must operate within budgets and that, even for the most important matters, those who engage us must ensure that fees and costs are managed responsibly. To that end, we have set our hourly rates at levels that are consistent with, and often below, the rates of firms that handle comparable matters, and we absorb in our overhead many of the costs that other firms bill for separately. For example, we do not bill for internal copying, faxing, long distance telephone charges, or secretarial overtime. We have performed services under retainer agreements in the past, and are happy to explore alternative billing arrangements where appropriate to meet our clients' needs.
